Are Tomatoes Keto?

With the keto diet concentrating on foods that are high in fats and low in carbs, tomatoes are allowed on a keto diet.

Which Tomatoes Are Best For Keto?

Any fresh and raw tomato is acceptable on a keto diet, but some varieties have slightly higher carbs. Here are different types of tomatoes:

Plum tomatoes

More commonly known as Roma or paste tomatoes, these tomatoes are keto-friendly and ideal for making salsa, sauces, and more. They are lower in acidity and have a low carb content, with 3 g of carbs for a 100 g tomato.

Green tomatoes

They have a tart taste and contain more acidity than ripened red-colored ones. Green tomatoes are, however, higher in carbs, but can still be enjoyed moderately on a keto diet.

Cherry tomatoes

The truth is, although cherry tomatoes are cute and small, they tend to have higher carbs than other varieties. With about 4-5 g of carbs per 100g, these tomatoes need to be enjoyed sparingly.

Grape Tomatoes

Much like cherry tomatoes, grape tomatoes are small and have a meatier flesh. For 100 g of grape tomatoes, there is about 5 g of carbs with 2g of dietary fiber.
