Ingredient Tips
- I recommend using thin skin-on cod fillet for broiling, as the broiler heat is high and best for quick cooking. The skin can keep the fillet from falling apart.
- If you use frozen cod, make sure to let it thaw properly to avoid it from becoming waterlogged.
- Use seasonings generously. Use garlic powder or onion powder, which adds extra depth of flavor, and paprika creates a more appealing exterior.
- As cod is a lean and mild fish, use unsalted butter to add a rich flavor to the fish.
Recipe Tips
- Position the rack about 4-6 inches from the top of the oven.
- Line the sheet pan with aluminum foil to prevent sticking. The cod has a delicate texture and it’s easy to fall apart and stick to the pan once cooked.
- Pat the fish dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.
- It’s important to keep an eye on your fish. Broiled cod cooks quickly, it can get overcooked easily.
- Use an instant-read thermometer to check the internal temperature. For a flaky and juicy texture, broil your fish to 145°F.
How to Broil Cod
This broil cod recipe is incredibly quick and easy to make. Here’s how it goes:
- First, preheat the broiler. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and set aside.
- Next, season the cod. Pat the fillet dry with paper towels. Brush with melted butter and season the fish..
- Then, broil the fish. Place the baking sheet 4-6 inches from the broiler. Broil for about 5-7 minutes or until the internal temperature of the cod reaches 145°F.
That’s it! Drizzle with lemon juice and garnish with the parsley. Dig in and enjoy!
Broiled Cod vs Baked Cod
Both are popular ways to cook cod fillet, I like broiling for a few reasons:
- Broiled cod has a crispier exterior as the fish is positioned closer to the oven’s upper heating element, creating a seared and crispy surface.
- It’s faster to broil cod than baking.
- When broiling, you don’t need to flip the cod halfway through cooking, making this recipe much easier.
What to Serve with Broiled Cod
- I love serving my cod with pasta, rice, or potatoes.
- You can add a side of vegetables such as asparagus, green beans, or carrots.
- For a healthy meal, serve it with a delicious salad such as broccoli salad or quinoa salad.
