About Me

Hi, I’m Izzy Yu, the recipe developer, food photographer, and voice behind IzzyCooking. For the past 16 years, I’ve been on a mission to prove that incredible food doesn’t have to be complicated. Whether it’s a 15-minute weeknight stir-fry or a showstopping sushi spread, I believe anyone can make restaurant-quality dishes at home with the right recipe and a little confidence.

What started as a passion project in 2010 has grown into a library of over 1,300 tested recipes that millions of home cooks rely on every month. I develop every recipe, shoot every photo, and write every word you see on this site. This is my kitchen, my work, and my absolute favorite thing to do.

My Cooking Journey

I grew up in a kitchen where flavor was everything. My family cooked constantly—big, fragrant meals that pulled from Chinese, Japanese, and Southeast Asian traditions. By the time I was a teenager, I was experimenting on my own, adapting family recipes and obsessing over technique. I wasn’t trained in a culinary school; I was trained by curiosity, thousands of hours of practice, and an unrelenting appetite for getting things right.

After moving to Toronto, I started documenting my recipes in 2010—first as a way to share with friends, then for a growing audience of home cooks who, like me, wanted real food that actually tasted great without requiring a chef’s resume.

What Makes IzzyCooking Different

Every recipe is tested multiple times before it hits the site. I adjust measurements, refine techniques, and test variations so you get it right the first time. My step-by-step photos walk you through every stage of the cooking process—no guesswork, no vague instructions.

I specialize in making complex flavors accessible. You’ll find everything here from sushi and Asian noodle dishes to Instant Pot meals, sous vide recipes, air fryer favorites, and comforting weeknight dinners. My recipes are written for real home cooks with real kitchens—no obscure ingredients, no unnecessary fuss, just food that makes people say “how did you make this?”

Brand Partnerships & Media

Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to develop recipes and create content for trusted brands including General Mills, Kellogg’s, Yoplait, Ritz Crackers, and ACE Bakery. My work has been featured in Food & Wine, BuzzFeed, and Yahoo!, and IzzyCooking’s recipes are shared and saved hundreds of thousands of times every month on Pinterest, where we’ve built a community of over 10 million monthly viewers.
