How To Choose Whiting Fish

Choose fresh whiting that has a fresh smell and clear, shiny eyes. Be sure to immediately refrigerate and cook the fish within two days of purchase. Use salt, pepper and your favorite spices to season the fish as desired. Baked whiting is delicious with garlic, lemon, and butter.

How to Cook Whiting Fish

  1. Season the whiting with salt and pepper and place on a baking sheet.
  2. Mix together the butter, garlic, red pepper flakes, lemon juice, and zest and then pour the mixture over the whiting fillets. 
  3. Place the lemon rounds on top of and around the fillets.
  4. Bake the whiting at 400°F. for 10-12 minutes or until the fish is fork-tender.

Whiting fish is low in fat and is a good source of protein, vitamin B, and magnesium. A 100-gram serving of whiting has about 90 calories.

Garlic Baked Whiting Fish Recipe

Ingredients 

  • 4 whiting fillets
  • 5 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • juice and zest from 1/2 lemon
  • 1 lemon, sliced
  • salt and pepper, to taste
  • parsley for garnish

Instructions 

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F. Set a side a baking dish.
  • Season the whiting with salt and pepper and place in the baking dish.
  • Mix together the butter, garlic, red pepper flakes, lemon juice, and zest and then pour the mixture over the whiting fillets.
  • Place the lemon rounds on top of and around the fillets.
  • Bake the whiting for 10-12 minutes or until the fish is fork-tender.
