Velveeta melts incredibly well and makes a delicious cheese dip! This easy Velveeta Cheese Dip recipe takes just 5 minutes to prepare and comes out perfectly every time.

Everyone loves a creamy cheesy dip! Whether you’re serving it with raw veggies, crisp tortilla chips, or cubes of bread, it’s super-satisfying.
What is Velveeta?
Because it doesn’t contain real cheese, Velveeta is classified as a cheese product by the FDA. Its ingredients include whey, milk, milk protein concentrate, fat, gelatin, flavorings, and preservatives.
Velveeta Cheese Dip Ingredients
- Velveeta: A cheese product that melts smoothly when heated.Â
- Heavy Cream: Adds a rich and creamy texture. Regular milk can be easily substituted.Â
- Poblano Pepper: This traditional Mexican green chili adds flavor and texture.Â
- Jalapeño Pepper: A small green pepper used to add a hit of spice to dishes.Â
- White Onion:  Dice it finely so it won’t overpower the flavor of the dip. Yellow onion can be used in place of white onion.Â
- Cilantro: Brightens up the flavor of the dip. If you’re not a fan of cilantro, it can be excluded.Â
- Tomato: Adds a bit of flavor, color, and texture to the dip.Â
- Lime Juice: Adds a bit of tart flavor to balance out the creaminess of the dip.Â
- Black Pepper:Â Add a pinch of black pepper to bring everything together.
How to Make Velveeta Cheese Dip

- In a saucepan over medium-low heat, add all of the ingredients except the lime juice and black pepper.
- When the Velveeta begins to melt, reduce the heat to low. Stir well until smooth.
- Stir in the lime juice and black pepper to taste.
How to Store Velveeta Cheese Dip
To keep the dip nice and warm, keep it in a small crock pot. Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to 4 days in an airtight container, and reheated on the stovetop or in the microwave.
What to Serve with Cheese Dip
Classic favorites include tortilla chips, raw veggies, and fresh or toasted bread. Here are some additional ideas:
- Use it as a topping for chili, nachos, fajitas, enchiladas, tacos or burritos.
- Add it to scrambled eggs.
- Add it to pasta for a delicious mac & cheese dish.

Substitutes for Velveeta Cheese
Instead of using Velveeta to make a dip, try Monterey Jack, American cheese, or extra sharp cheddar cheese. Shred the cheese and use an amount equal to the Velveeta called for in the recipe. Try adding some heavy cream for a creamier consistency.
How Can I Make This Ahead of Time and Keep It Warm?
After the cheese has melted and the dip is ready, keep it in a crock pot at warm or at the lowest setting. Stir occasionally until ready to serve.
How Do You Reheat Velveeta Cheese Dip?
- Velveeta dip can be reheated in the microwave. Use a microwave-safe bowl and add a little milk. Heat the dip for 1 minute and stir. Continue heating for 1-minute intervals checking after each minute until heated through and melted. Â
- Reheat the Velveeta dip on the stovetop. Place it in a pot or a skillet with about ½ tablespoon of cream or milk per cup of dip. Heat over medium-low, stirring well until the cheese has melted and is heated through.Â
