How to Make the Patties for Texas Burger

Grab a handful of meat and gently mold it into the shape of a ball. Toss it from hand to hand a couple of times as you would a ball. Pat the meat into flat round discs taking care to smooth out the edges. Use your thumb to place a dent into the center of each patty.

    How to Make the Salsa

Dice the red onion and place it into a bowl or a jar. Drain the chunks of tomato and chilis from the salsa and add them to the onion. Stir the mixture to combine and refrigerate until ready to serve.

    Tips and Tricks

    • The salsa and avocado spread can be prepared ahead of time and refrigerated while the burgers cook.
    • Use high-quality 20% fat ground chuck beef.
    • Shape the patties slightly wider than the bun. As the burgers cook they’ll shrink a bit.
    • Make a thumb indentation in each patty. This will stop the meat from puffing up as it cooks and will help the burgers hold their shape.
    • Let the patties sear before flipping and resist the urge to press down on the burgers as they cook. This will help to keep them moist and juicy.

    How to Serve Texas Burger

Serve with your favorite cold drinks. Iced tea and cold beer are favorites. Have some sides on hand like green salad, potato salad, coleslaw, dill pickles, and a variety of chips.
