Ground beef is a super versatile and inexpensive meat that can be used to create delicious meals your entire family will love. Whether you’re making casseroles, pastas, burgers or tacos, ground beef is a great ingredient to keep in your freezer for a quick and easy dinner.

Best Ways to Defrost Ground Beef

Method 1: Thaw the ground beef in the Refrigerator

This is a foolproof method of safely defrosting ground beef. Simply move the meat from the freezer to the fridge. Let it thaw overnight. By keeping the meat cold while it’s defrosting, you can prevent the growth of bacteria.

Method 2: Thaw it in the microwave

When you’re in a time crunch, there’s nothing more convenient than using a microwave for defrosting. Most microwaves have a pre-programmed defrosting option that makes it super easy. Time should be adjusted based on the weight of the beef and the wattage of your microwave.

Method 3: Defrost in the cold water

This is a safe and easy method of defrosting that allows the meat to stay cool, thus preventing the growth of bacteria. Place the meat in a watertight plastic bag and fully submerge it in a bowl of cold water. Change the water every 30 minutes until the beef is completely thawed.

Method 4: Use sous vide to defrost ground beef

If you have a sous vide cooker, you can use it to defrost ground beef and other meats. Set the thermostat to a low temperature of around 35°F and allow the cool water to gradually and safely defrost the meat.
