Before you begin, it’s helpful to know that Turkish desserts fall into three categories: milk-based, pastry-based, and those made with fruits or vegetables. So, what that means is that you have to try at least one type beyond the ever-popular baklava!

Prepare yourself for this one! Turkish rice pudding is a melt-in-your-mouth dessert that’s both creamy and rich. Also known as Sütlaç, this recipe lets you make a traditional dessert right in your home at any time of the day!

Baklava 

Turkish Baklava, is one of the more popular desserts! Also known as Fistikli Baklava or Pistachio Baklava, this treat is the perfect combination of rich, buttery, and sweet! Made with phyllo dough, finely ground pistachios, butter,  a sugar syrup, water, and lemon juice. That’s it!

Tulumba Tatlumba Tatlisi

Pronounced too-LOOM-bah TAHT-luh-suh, are oblong balls of fried dough, soaked in syrup. Crispy, syrupy, and incredibly-sweet, Tulumba tatlumba tatlisi is also a popular street food in Turkey.

Sutlu Nuriye

Sutlu Nuriyes a delicious Turkish dessert that is often compared to  baklava. Made a lighter with a milk based syrup, while crushed hazelnut.s are used in the filling  to give Sutlu Nuriye a whitish look. Easily a huge hit with the kids!

Turkish Delight Sponge Cake

The layers of lemon and rose alone will make you want to devour this dessert! Made with a subtle rose buttercream & chunks of Turkish Delight, this sponge cake is one you don’t want to pass on! And the rose petals to garnish really steps this dessert up a notch. 

Turkish Churros

A popular street food in Turkey, now available to make in your own home! Turkish churros are popular among street desserts and are commonly called Halka Tatlisi in Turkish.

Lokma

How good does this sound? Fried dough covered in syrup? That’s exactly what Lokma is! Served as a dessert, lokma can be sweetened up with chocolate sauce and honey, or even try adding some cinnamon, sesame, or grated walnuts too!

Baklava

Easy Turkish Dessert Baklava Recipe

This easy Turkish Baklava is made with flaky phyllo pastry. It’s sweet, crunchy, and so delicious. It’s one of our favorite Turkish desserts.
Servings: 30

Ingredients 

  • 16 oz phyllo dough, thawed
  • 16 oz walnuts
  • 1 ½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup butter, melted
  • optional melted chocolate

Instructions 

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
  • In a food processor, add walnuts, ground cinnamon, cardamom, and salt. Blend until walnuts are well chopped.
  • Place 8 layers of phyllo dough on the baking sheet, brushing each layer with melted butter.
  • Spread 2/3 cup of the walnut mixture on top of the dough evenly.
  • Add another 5 layers of the phyllo dough and brush each layer with butter.
  • Add another 2/3 cup of the walnuts. Repeat until you use up all the dough and walnut mixture.
  • Cut the assembled baklava into squares with your desired sizes.
  • Bake for 45-50 minutes or until the edges are golden brown. Let it cool for 15-20 minutes.
  • Drizzle with melted chocolate or your favorite syrup. Serve and enjoy!
