Filled with vibrant shades of green, Saint Patrick’s Day is a fun way to celebrate everything green. Also known as the feast of Saint Patrick, it’s both a cultural and a religious celebration held annually on March 17th.

It’s been adopted by many, Irish or not, who love celebrating! In addition to lively parades, colorful costumes, and 3-leaf clovers, you can also find green beer, green food, and even green desserts on Saint Patrick’s Day!

What is Traditionally Eaten on Saint Patrick’s Day?

Much of the food traditionally eaten in Ireland on Saint Patrick’s day is typical Irish fare. For breakfast, an Irish Fry is often served to start the day, and includes fried eggs, bacon, fried tomatoes, soda bread, and black pudding (blood sausage).

Scones are also popular, enjoyed in the morning or in the afternoon. These baked treats similar to biscuits are slightly sweet and are enjoyed slathered with butter and jam. Another baked item is Irish soda bread. Made with whole-wheat flour, raisins, buttermilk, and baking soda, it’s a rich bread enjoyed with hot brewed tea.

When it’s time for the evening meal, a simple beef pot roast with vegetables is enjoyed, followed by a delectable slice of apple tart. If you’re celebrating Saint Patrick’s Day in North America, you’ll probably find corned beef and cabbage on the menu.

What Dessert Goes Well with Corned Beef and Cabbage?

After a savory meal of corned beef and cabbage, you might be craving something sweet! Some popular desserts to consider include bread pudding with Irish whiskey, Guinness ice cream, porter bundt cake with whiskey caramel sauce, and apple tart.
