How to Make Penne Bolognese

  • In a large skillet, heat the olive oil to medium-high. Add the carrot, celery, and onion and sauté stirring occasionally for about 10 minutes or until the vegetables are translucent and tender.
  • Add ground beef, salt and pepper. Sauté for about 10 minutes or until the ground beef is cooked through, breaking the meat up as it cooks.

Bolognese Sauce vs Spaghetti Sauce

Bolognese is typically heartier than regular red spaghetti sauce. Some bolognese is made with two types of meat and can also include heavy cream. Spaghetti sauce is usually thinner than bolognese sauce and can be served with or without meat.

What Is The Best Pasta For Bolognese Sauce?

Bolognese sauce is traditionally served with fresh tagliatelle, an egg-based noodle that’s similar to fettuccine. Because bolognese is a hearty sauce, you want a pasta that will hold its shape. Penne, rigatoni, pappardelle, and fettuccine are good options.
