Ingredients

This oreo balls recipe only calls for 3 ingredients: oreo cookies, cream cheese and chocolate (you can use either white or dark chocolate). It’s a no-bake recipe that’s so easy to make and looks like chocolate truffles.

Despite being one of the easiest and cheapest desserts to make, oreo cream cheese balls are beautiful and perfect for holidays.

What Kind of Chocolate Should I Use?

Chocolate is the most important part of this recipe, and using high-quality chocolate is key. I’ve found that baking chocolate works best, as chocolate chips won’t taste as good or melt easily. High-quality baking chocolate will yield a beautiful and smooth coating after dipping.

I like semi-sweet milk chocolate, but you can use bittersweet chocolate or white chocolate to cover your oreo truffles.

How to Make Oreo Balls

  • Crush the oreo cookies into crumbs.
  • Combine oreo crumbs and softened cream cheese. Mix well until they are smooth.
  • Scoop out some oreo cream cheese mixture and roll it into 1-inch cookie balls. Place on a cookie sheet and freeze for 20 minutes.
  • Melt chocolate in a double-boiler or microwave.
  • Dip balls in melted chocolate using a fork and then place them on the parchment paper.
  • Decorate your oreo cheesecake balls with remaining melted chocolate or oreo crumbs if desired.
  • Sprinkles
  • Crushed oreo cookies
  • Melted white chocolate
  • Crushed candy canes
  • Crushed peppermint
  • Chopped almonds
  • Use the decorating gel for a snowman, reindeer or football look

You can leave these oreo balls at room temperature for up to 2 hours. If longer then that, it’s best to store them in the refrigerator, as these balls use cream cheese. The chocolate can also get soft at room temperature.

How Long Do Oreo Balls Last?

These oreo cookie balls can last for up to 2 weeks in the refrigerator. You can also freeze them in the freezer for up to 2 months. Make sure to separate them from each other with parchment paper and seal them properly with zip-lock bags.

  • Make sure that your oreo cookies are finely crushed. It’s best to make the crumbs with a food processor or blender. You will need fine crumbs for this recipe.
  • Soften your cream cheese ahead of time, so it can be easily mixed with cookie crumbs. This is a very important step! If you forget to do that, you can place the unwrapped cream cheese onto a microwave-safe place. Microwave on high for about 15 seconds.
  • High-quality chocolate is critical. Skip the cheap chocolate chips and get some good baking chocolate
  • Variations: You can mix other ingredients for special flavors. Some popular flavors include pumpkin, lemon, gingerbread and mint.

These are delicious! Honestly, I can’t get over how good they are.

I would like some input though – I’d like to make and ship these to my kids. Any thoughts on that?

    1. Hi Susan, great to hear that you like the recipe. As these oreo cookie balls contain cream cheese, you’ll need to pack them with lots of ice packs and choose overnight shipping. Hope it helps.

Made these yesterday, they are decadent! They are very rich and SO tasty! After processing the Oreos in the food processor, I added the cream cheese into the food processor as well. The mixture was very sticky, like sticky pudding, so I then put the mixture in the refrigerator for about 20 minutes because it was too sticky. After 20 minutes it was really easy to roll into balls. Wanted to add that note in case someone else experienced that.
