What Does A Buttermilk Pie Taste Like?

Buttermilk pie is similar in flavor to crème brûlée, although it doesn’t include caramel.

Tips and Tricks

  • A store-bought pie crust makes this recipe even easier to prepare.
  • Make your own buttermilk by adding 1 tablespoon of lemon juice to 1 cup of milk. Let the mixture stand until thickened.
  • Another buttermilk substitution is to mix sour cream or plain yogurt with a little water or milk until it has the consistency of buttermilk.

How to Store Buttermilk Pie

Place leftover buttermilk pie into an airtight container and store in the fridge for 2-3 days. You can also freeze buttermilk pie by placing it into a freezer-safe container or in resealable freezer bags with the excess air removed. The buttermilk pie can be stored in the freezer for up to 2 months. When ready to eat, let the pie thaw out in the fridge overnight before serving.

What Is The Difference Between Buttermilk Pie And Chess Pie?

Chess pie typically includes vinegar and/or cornmeal in the filling. Buttermilk pie gets its tangy flavor from lemon juice and buttermilk.

Why Is My Buttermilk Pie Runny?

The pie could be runny for a couple reasons: It may not have baked for long enough or some of the amounts of ingredients were off. When your pie is done, it should still be slightly jiggly in the center. If it seems quite loose, it needs more time to bake.

Perfect! We used a graham cracker crust and added lemon zest, too. Cause lemon is luscious. I love how simply you write out the instructions. This will be a regular at our house. Thanks!!
