Preheat your toaster oven to 400°F and set the timer. Place the potatoes on the middle rack and cook until done. There’s no need to turn or rotate the potatoes!

  • Rinse the potato thoroughly and then pat them dry with paper towels before cooking.
  • Poke the potatoes several times with the tines of a fork or a skewer to allow steam to escape.

How Long To Bake Potatoes In A Toaster Oven

The cooking time will vary based on the size of the potatoes. As a guideline, check the potatoes with a fork at the 35 minute mark for smaller potatoes. If the potatoes are still firm, let them bake for another 10 minutes and then check them again. The potatoes are done when a fork can easily slide into the center of the potato.

Baked potatoes are done when they feel soft when pressed and the tines of a fork can easily slide into the center. The skins will be light brown and crispy. 

How to Store Toaster Oven Baked Potatoes

Leftover baked potatoes should be placed into an airtight container and stored in the fridge for up to five days. To freeze leftover potatoes, remove any toppings and let the potatoes cool to room temperature. Wrap the potatoes in plastic wrap or foil, and place into a freezer safe container or a resealable freezer bag with the excess air removed. The potatoes can be stored in the freezer for up to one month.

To reheat the potatoes in a microwave, place them on a microwave-safe plate and heat for 3-5 minutes until hot throughout. To use a toaster oven, set it to 400°F and heat for about 10 minutes.

Can You Put Foil Wrapped Potatoes In The Toaster Oven?

Yes, you can wrap the potatoes in foil but the skin won’t crisp up. The inside of the potato may also end up overly soft and soggy. If you prefer baked potatoes with crispy skin, there’s no need to wrap them in foil before baking.

Toaster Oven Baked Potato Recipe

Ingredients 

  • 4 russet potatoes
  • Olive oil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions 

  • Preheat the toaster oven to bake at 400°F and set the timer to the desired minutes. As a guide, set it between 35 to 75 minutes depending on the size of the potatoes.
  • If using the convection setting, set the toaster oven to 375°F instead and the timer to between 30-60 minutes depending on the size of the potatoes.
  • Scrub the potatoes well with water and thoroughly pat them dry with paper towels.
  • Coat the skins of the potatoes with olive oil using a pastry brush and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Pierce the skins several times with the tines of a fork or a skewer to allow steam to escape.
  • Place the potatoes on the middle rack of the toaster oven to bake. There’s no need to flip or rotate the potatoes.
  • Wearing an oven mitt, give the potatoes a squeeze to test for doneness after about 35 minutes for small potatoes. If they still feel firm, let them bake for another 10 minutes or so and test again.
  • Insert a fork or a thin sharp knife into the center of the potatoes to confirm that they’re done.
  • Remove the potatoes from the toaster oven and slice open. Top with a pinch of salt and pepper, butter, sour cream, and chopped green onions if desired.
