  • 2 cups water

(Note: Full recipe is at the bottom of the post)

How to Make Quinoa Fried Rice

  • Add quinoa and water to a pot over medium heat. Cook it uncovered until all of the water has been absorbed.
  • Remove the pot from the heat and cover with a lid for 5 minutes to let the quinoa steam. The quinoa will pop and become fluffy.
  • Saute the veggies in a small frying pan until tender. (You can also use raw veggies if you prefer). Add the garlic and saute for 30 seconds to 1 minute. Watch it carefully so it doesn’t burn.
  • Push the veggies to one side of the hot pan and add the egg. Scramble the egg until cooked and mix with the veggies. If the mixture seems dry, add a teaspoon of butter or oil.
  • Add a sprinkle of garlic powder or your seasoning of choice to the quinoa. Fluff with a fork and add the quinoa into the pan with the veggies.
  • Add the soy sauce and stir well.
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste and pan fry for a few minutes. Serve and enjoy!

Tips and Tricks for Cooking Quinoa

Quinoa is typically cooked at a ratio of one part quinoa to two parts water. Cook it uncovered until all of the water has been absorbed.

Remove the pot from the heat and cover with a lid for 5 minutes to let the quinoa steam. The quinoa will pop and become fluffy.

Can Quinoa Be A Rice Substitute?

Yes, quinoa can replace rice in many dishes. Note that the dish may have a slightly different flavor and texture. You may have to adjust the cooking times because quinoa cooks much faster than rice.

What Can I Mix With Quinoa?

Quinoa is delicious as a side dish and also makes a hearty salad. It can be cooked with broth instead of water for extra flavor, and works well in recipes that often call for rice like pilafs. Season quinoa with different types of herbs and spices and try it with flavored oils.
