We’ve included a recipe for this simple but deliciously satisfying sandwich for you to make at home.

There’s nothing like the flavor of a fresh ripe tomato. If you have a garden full of tomatoes, you know the flavor is completely different to the tomatoes purchased at the grocery store.

Garden-fresh tomatoes are juicy, sweet, and only need a pinch of salt and pepper!

Ingredients You’ll Need

Tomato Sandwich
  • Tomatoes
  • Bread
  • Mayonnaise
  • Lettuce
  • Cooked Bacon
  • Salt and Pepper
  • Optional Butter

How to Make Tomato Sandwich

  • Slice the tomatoes into thin slices and sprinkle with salt. Dry with paper towels.
  • Toast the bread if desired.
  • Spread the bread with butter and mayonnaise.
  • Place the tomatoes on one slice.
  • Add the lettuce and bacon. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper.
  • Top with the second slice of bread. Cut and enjoy!
Tomato Sandwich

Best Tomatoes for This Recipe

You’ll want to use a large, firm tomato for this sandwich. Beefsteak tomatoes are a classic choice. They’re juicy, delicious, and easy to source.

Best Bread to Use

The choice of bread is totally up to you! Any kind of bread will work and you can opt to have it toasted or fresh.

The Best Mayonnaise to Use

Choose your favorite mayonnaise or make your own! It will add a slightly tangy flavor to your sandwich.

Pro Tips

  • Tomatoes are best stored at room temperature, not in the fridge.
  • Slice the tomato, add a pinch of salt, and set it aside on paper towels. The excess juice will be absorbed into the paper towel and won’t cause your bread to become soggy.
  • Add just a pinch of salt and pepper to enhance, not overpower, the flavor of your sandwich.
