Easy Sauce for Meatballs Recipe

This classic meat sauce is made with ground beef, tomato sauce, tomato paste, and seasonings. It takes about 40 minutes to make and is delicious served over pasta.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 15 ounces tomato sauce
  • 6 ounces tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon dried parsley flakes
  • 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • crushed red pepper flakes to taste
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh basil leaves optional

Instructions

  • Season the ground beef with salt and pepper.
  • In a large skillet, add the beef and the onion. Cook, stirring often until browned. Drain and discard any excess grease.
  • Add the tomato sauce, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, sugar, parsley, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and crushed red pepper flakes to the skillet. Stir well to combine and bring to a boil. Add the water and stir well.
  • Reduce the heat and simmer for 30 minutes until done. Add the chopped basil just before serving.
