- 1 oz dried sea moss
- 1-2 cups spring water or filtered water
Rinse the dried sea moss thoroughly with cool spring water. Place in a mixing bowl and add spring water to cover.
Cover the bowl and let it sit for at least 6 hours or overnight at room temperature. During this time, it will triple in size and take on a lighter and translucent appearance.
Add the sea moss to a blender along with 1 cup of the liquid. Set your blender to high speed until it forms a smooth liquid, up to 1 minute or more depending on your blender efficiency. If it’s too thick, you can add up to 1 cup of additional water during blending.
Keep refrigerated for 2 hours or more until the liquid forms a gel. Serve or use in recipes.
- Storage: Sea moss gel can last up to one month in an airtight container in the fridge, or up to 3 months in the freezer.
- Uses for Sea Moss Gel: You can use it in smoothies, jams, bread, soups and more. In Jamaica, it’s often combined with bladderwrack for flavor.
