How to Cook Perfect Brown Rice

Brown rice is higher in fiber than regular white rice and has a delicious slightly nutty flavor. Serve one of these tasty recipes the next time rice is on the menu.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup brown rice
  • 6 cups water
  • optional seasonings

Instructions

  • Bring a large pot of water to a boil. You’ll need at least 6 cups of water for every 1 cup of rice. Rinse the rice in a fine mesh strainer under running water to remove the excess starch.
  • Add the rice to the boiling water. Reduce the temperature to maintain a steady boil. Boil, uncovered, for 30 minutes.
  • Drain off the excess cooking water and return the rice to the pot. Cover the pot and let the rice rest, off the heat, for about 10 minutes. Fluff with a fork and season as desired. Serve and enjoy!
