The basic recipe consists of vodka, orange juice or soda, and cream (cream, ice cream, or cream liqueur). Regardless of how you choose to have it, this Orange Dreamsicle is always delicious!

Creamsicle vs Dreamsicle

A creamsicle is made with ice cream, while a Dreamsicle contains milk and ice. However, the two names are often used interchangeably.

Ingredients You’ll Need

  • ice cubes
  • orange juice
  • whipped cream vodka

How to Make Orange Dreamsicle

  • In a blender, blend the ice cubes, orange juice and whipped cream vodka until the ice is completely crushed and the mixture is smooth and thick.
  • Pour the mixture into mason jars. Serve and enjoy!

Tips and Tricks

  • For the best tasting treat, always use freshly-squeezed orange juice or pulp-free bottled juice. One orange will usually make enough juice for two or three creamsicles.
  • For a dairy-free version, opt for vanilla-flavored soy, almond or oat milk.
  • A naughty but oh-so-nice trick is to top any version of your orange dreamsicle with a little whipped cream.
  • To make a taller drink, just add more orange juice and half-and-half (2 to 3 ounces each).

What is the Original Creamsicle?

The original Creamsicle is a vanilla ice cream lolly covered in iced orange juice. While orange was the original flavor, you can now find almost every fruity alternative, including strawberry and grape.

What is a Dairy Queen Dreamsicle?

Dairy Queen’s Dreamsicle is a vanilla soft serve ice cream with a tangy and sweet orange coating. It’s a popular frozen treat that gives you a delicious burst of orange with smooth and creamy ice cream.

How Strong is a Creamsicle Cocktail?

The orange creamsicle is a bit stronger than a glass of wine. With 70-proof vodka, the original creamsicle reaches about 15% ABV (30 proof), but you can easily lower the alcohol content by adding more nonalcoholic mixers (cream, juice, or soda).

Variations

  • Dreamsicle Float: In a chilled glass, pour 1 1/2 ounces of vodka and 1/2 ounce of triple sec.  Add one small scoop of vanilla ice cream and top up with orange soda.
  • Dreamsicle Shot: Prepare the recipe above and then strain into two shot glasses.
  • Frozen Dreamsicle: Create a frozen margarita consistency by replacing the whipped cream with ice cream.
