How To Reheat Your Leftover Prime Rib

Follow the steps in these 4 methods to reheat prime rib that tastes just as delicious as the day it was cooked.

Method 1: Reheating Prime Rib In the Oven

  • Preheat the oven to a low temperature between 250°F – 300°F.
  • Remove the prime rib from the fridge and place it into a roasting pan. Pour a few tablespoons of leftover au jus or beef broth on top of the prime rib.
  • Wrap the roasting pan with foil to keep the juices inside the meat.
  • Place the roast into the oven and heat until it reaches the desired doneness. This will take about 10 minutes depending on the size of the roast.
  • Take the roast out of the oven and remove the foil.
  • Place the roasting pan on the stovetop and set it over high heat. Add some butter to the pan, and wait until the prime rib begins to sear. When the prime rib develops a crust and begins to brown,  turn off the stove.
  • Transfer the prime rib to a serving plate. Pour the juice from the roasting pan over the meat and serve.

Method 2: Reheating Prime Rib Using a Steamer

Using a steamer is a gentle way to reheat prime rib.

  • Pour some water into the bottom of a steamer pot until there’s between 1-3 inches of water.
  • Make a foil pouch to hold the roast.
  • Place the leftover prime rib into the foil pouch, pour some leftover au jus or beef broth on the meat and then tightly seal the foil around the roast.
  • Carefully place the pouch with the prime rib into the steamer and cover the pot.
  • Allow the meat to warm through for about 3 to 6 minutes. Use an instant read thermometer to check the temperature of the roast. Remove the meat from the steamer when it reaches 160 – 165°F. If left longer, the meat will begin to dry out.
  • Serve immediately drizzled with the leftover au jus.

Note: If the leftover prime rib was frozen, the steaming process could take up to 30 minutes.

Turn the slices over at the halfway point to ensure they heat up  consistently. Continue to heat at intervals of 15-30 seconds and use an instant read thermometer to check for doneness. The prime rib is heated through when it reaches 160°F – 165°F.
  • Serve the prime rib with leftover au jus or beef broth.
