What Can I Mix with My Hamburger Meat?

Well, there are plenty of options! With a few simple ingredients, you can take your burgers from boring to brilliant. One way to improve consistency and flavor is to add any of the following: eggs, bacon, onions, breadcrumbs, garlic, BBQ sauce, or even peanut butter.

Do I Need to Add Eggs to Hamburger?

The simple answer is yes! When it comes to hamburgers or meatloaf, the egg serves as a binder to hold the meat and other ingredients together. This is especially needed if you’re using extra lean ground beef. You can avoid adding egg if you use beef with an 80/20 ratio, meaning a higher fat content.

What’s the Secret to a Juicy Burger?

If your burgers are dry and tough, follow these simple tips to achieve juicy results:

  • Don’t overwork the meat. Being gentle when you mix in the ingredients retains more moisture.
  • Make a thumbprint in the middle of the burger to prevent it from puffing up while it cooks.
  • Use high heat to ensure a nice sear and a delicious crust.
  • Resist the urge to move the burger around too much. Instead, let the burger sit for 4-5 minutes and then flip to cook on the other side.
  • Don’t push down on the burger while it’s cooking. You’ll lose all of the delicious meaty juices!
  • Let the burgers rest after cooking will help to keep them juicy and flavorful.

By: Izzy
Salisbury Steak is loaded with juicy and flavorful beef patties smothered in creamy, savory mushroom gravy. It’s one of our favorite hamburger recipes and perfect for an easy weeknight dinner!
Prep: 15 minutes
Cook: 15 minutes
Total: 30 minutes
Servings: 4

Ingredients

Beef Patties

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 teaspoon garlic crushed to a paste
  • 1 egg
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Gravy

  • 1/2 onion
  • 5 oz cremini mushrooms about a dozen
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • salt and pepper , to taste
  • chopped parsley, for garnish

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, add ground beef, grated parmesan, breadcrumbs, minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Mix with fingers until the mixture becomes a bit “pasty”. This will ensure your patties hold together nicely.
  • Divide into 4 portions and pat firmly into oval patties.
  • Heat oil in a large cast-iron skillet over high heat until it begins to simmer. Add the steak and cook for about 3 minutes per side. Remove onto a plate.
  • In the same skillet, add sliced onions and mushrooms. Reduce the heat to medium. Cook for about 4 minutes or until onions are a bit translucent.
  • Add tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, and beef broth. Reduce heat and simmer for about 3 minutes.
  • Pour in heavy cream, cook for a few more minutes until the sauce is slightly thickened. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Add the patties back to the skillet. Spoon the juices over the patties.
  • Remove steaks onto a serving plate. Garnish with chopped parsley. Serve and enjoy!
