Best Steak Sauce Recipe

This homemade steak sauce is a delicious balance of sweet, tart, and tangy. It only takes 15 minutes to prepare and is so much better than store-bought sauce!
Prep: 5 minutes
Cook: 10 minutes
Total: 15 minutes
Servings: 12 servings

Ingredients

  • ½ cup ketchup
  • ¼ cup water
  • ¼ cup Dijon mustard
  • 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
  • ¼ cup orange juice
  • ½ cup Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 shallot, sliced
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • ¼ cup sugar, optional, adjust to personal taste

Instructions

  • In a medium saucepan over medium heat, add all ingredients.
  • Bring to a boil and then let it simmer for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Have a quick taste-test. Add sugar if you’d like the sauce to be slightly sweeter. Cook the sauce until it is thick enough to coat the back of a spoon.
  • Transfer the sauce to a jar and let it cool before serving.

Notes

  • You can puree and strain the sauce for a smoother texture.
  • Don’t overcook the sauce as it thickens when it cools.
