What Are Crepes?

Crepes are thin, light pancakes that originated in France. Made from a simple batter of flour, eggs, milk, and salt, crepes are known for their delicate and paper-thin texture

They can be folded, rolled, or stacked with different types of fillings, making them suitable for both sweet and savory dishes.

Fillings For Different Types Of Crepes

The classic crepes are incredibly versatile. You can fill them or top them with sweet or savory ingredients. Here are some common fillings:

  • Crepe with Sweet Fillings for Breakfast or Desserts: These crepes are made with a touch of sugar added to the batter, making them ideal for sweet fillings like Nutella, fruit, jam, or whipped cream.
  • Savory Breakfast Crepe: This type of crepe omits the sugar in the batter and is filled with breakfast items such as eggs, cheese, and ham.
  • Crepe Dinner with Savory Fillings: Mushrooms, spinach, meat and other vegetables. They are often served as a main course.

What Are Traditional French Crepe Fillings?

FAQs

Is butter or oil better for making crepes?

Both butter and oil can be used to grease the pan for making crepes. Butter adds a rich flavor, while oil has a neutral taste.

What goes well with crepes?

The most common pairing is fresh fruit, which won’t overpower the delicate taste of the crepes. Whipped cream is another option.

For savory crepes, you can add side dishes such as roast potatoes, grilled vegetables, sausages or even a green salad.

I’m going to celebrate Mother’s Day with your recipes. I also love Photography and have since 5 years old. I’m in my 60’s now and still travel around to take my photos. Thank you.
