- Bake the beans at 325°F until they are partially dried out, about 15 minutes.
- While the beans cook, add olive oil to a skillet over medium heat. When hot, toss in garlic, onions, and chopped peppers. Sautée until veggies soften, about 5 or 6 minutes.
- Add the mixture to a mixing bowl.
- Add garlic powder, paprika, ground cumin, chili powder, bread crumbs, feta cheese, eggs, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, salt, and pepper.
- Add the baked black beans to the mixture.
- Mash the mixture with a fork. It’s ok to leave some beans whole.
- Shape the mixture into patties using about 1/3 cup of mixture for each one.
- Grease a sheet of aluminum foil. Place patties on the sheet and grill for 8 minutes on each side over medium heat. Place the patties on top of buns, serve with your toppings of choice and enjoy!
Tips and Tricks
- To ensure these burgers don’t get mushy, make sure to dry out the black beans thoroughly. Spread canned black beans on a baking sheet and bake for roughly 15 minutes.
- You can freeze raw or cooked black bean burgers for up to 3 months. Stack layers of burgers between sheets of parchment paper to prevent sticking. You can cook or reheat these burgers from frozen, or you can thaw them in the refrigerator overnight to speed up the cooking time.
- All the ingredients in this recipe can be substituted with vegan-friendly alternatives.
