Peach cobbler is an old-fashioned Southern dessert that’s fruity and summery, but can be enjoyed all year round. If you think a cobbler is a fancy specialty dessert, think again! Best of all, you’ll be using a regular box of cake mix, making this a no-fuss, uncomplicated dessert.

Easy Peach Cobbler with Cake Mix Recipe

Did you know that you can make a cobbler using cake mix? If you’ve only ever enjoyed cobbler from a bakery, you’ll be glad to know that it’s quick and easy to make your very own cobbler at home. All it takes is a regular box of cake mix, peaches, butter and cinnamon.

What is the Difference Between a Dump Cake and a Cobbler?

Dump cakes and cobblers are very similar, both in appearance and taste. The difference is in the texture. Cobblers have more of a crumbly texture, compared to the dump cake’s cake-like mouthfeel.

Ingredients You’ll Need

  • Ripe Peaches: You can also use canned peaches
  • Cake Mix: You can use yellow or white cake mix
  • Ground Cinnamon
  • Butter

Tips & Tricks

  • Choose ripe peaches for the best result. Alternatively, you can use canned peaches, but make sure to pour the juices to the pan.
  • Add 3-4 tablespoons of sugar if you prefer an extra sweet cake.
  • Check the cake after 30 minutes of baking. Bake longer if needed.
  • Let the cobbler cool down slightly before serving.

Peach Cobbler with Cake Mix and Canned Peaches

If you’re lucky enough to have fresh peaches, go ahead and use them. If not, canned peaches will do the trick. For canned peaches, be sure to include the juices for a richer tasting dessert. Canned peaches tend to be sweeter than fresh peaches, so bear this in mind if you’re adding sugar.

Yellow Cake Mix or White Cake Mix

This is completely up to you. Both white and yellow cake mix can be used to make a delicious peach cobbler. They are nearly identical in taste and will not affect the end product either way.

How to Peel Peach Easily?

It can be tricky to remove the thin skin of peaches. The simplest method is to gently lower the fruit into a pot of boiling water for about thirty seconds, then transfer them to an ice water bath. The skin will peel right off!

How to Thicken Peach Cobbler?

Cornstarch or all-purpose flour can be used to thicken your cobbler if necessary. Add a teaspoon at a time until the cobbler is your desired consistency.

Do I Have to Soften the Peaches for My Cake Mix Peach Cobbler?

It’s not necessary to soften your peaches before baking. The fruits will soften as they bake.

Why is My Peach Cobbler Gummy?

Peach cobbler can become gummy when overcooked. Be sure to remove it from the oven at the directed time. When reheating in the microwave, use the shortest possible time.

How to Store Peach Cobbler?

Peach cobbler can be stored in the fridge for up to five days. This kind of dessert is not ideal for freezing, as it does not retain its texture very well.
